The FBI have issued an alert to local law enforcement and released this information to the press. Reports are surfacing that “Middle-Eastern” men are approaching several military families, among them spouses of military personnel saying that her husband is a military interrogator. When she denied it, they laughed at her and entered into a “dark colored” car and drove away. The incidents reportedly occurred in Wyoming and Colorado. Other incidents may not have been released to the public as yet.
Targeting military families for intimidation has long been anticipated by counter-terrorism professionals as a matter of time. The use of social media, where families post information about the return or deployment of U.S. military personnel provided a soft target for the psychological warfare associated to terrorism.
When a deployed soldier hears that his home and family are being threatened or intimidated or far worse attacked in a home invasion of some type; it will impact morale and focus on their job. One of the most disturbing threats to military family members will be that of hostage taking for trade or unspeakable release of YOUTUBE videos of captured spouses or children. The military family community will be required to take steps at self defense and home protection. Law Enforcement resources will be compelled to apply additional resources to protect them.
Eventually, terrorist attacks will target military families in their homes, children in their schools, or places of worship and employment. A Church in Las Vegas was raided and services disrupted by group of men claiming to be “former Muslims”.
Military families and friends will be wise to take prudent steps at self defense and home protection. Remain vigil and alert. The U.S. Government will be hesitant from reporting incidents or divulging information, so as not to drive the psychological threat components associated to this type of threat to the American public.
