When visiting The Shops of Nanuet in Rockland County you will want to stop in for excellent cuisine, professional service, and welcoming ambience at the BONEFISH Grill. The pleasant greeters and servers are sharp, smart, and attentive. There are no second chances at a first impression and they all seem to ooze this maxim.
They were trained and hand selected by Managing Partner Kaira Grundig. From kitchen staff to bar to front door greeters and servers, they all reflect her business philosophy; “Take care of the people, have fun, and so will they.” She says; “people are our business, this is not a burn and turn business model”. She pours herself into developing the skill sets of her staff. A full compliment of 45 employees. All of whom appear to work as smoothly as their famous Apple Martinis.
Kaira Grundig is a demure, young wife and mother in her 30’s, hailing from Seattle, Washington, growing up in a family restaurant business, where she imagined herself “molding young minds” as a first grade school teacher. Life and circumstances along the path of self discovery transitioned her from being that elementary school teacher in Jacksonville, Florida for special needs children, to again gravitate a return to the restaurant industry.
She attributes the people skill sets she learned from her Dad and Grand-dad, who planted in her the seed of self reliance. Whether it was her vivacious personality, infectious smile, or cheer-leader qualities that caught the eye of two mentors, Joe Cruz and Dianne Hartzel, to whom she credits taking her under their wing, and setting her foot on the path from Server to Managing Partner beginning in 2005 and assuming the position of Managing Partner in 2014.
Equally important to her business accomplishments is her sense of giving back to the community. Kaira speaks with high praise of the Rotary Club executive Alexandra Duenas, another accomplished businesswoman she is teamed with in a variety of charity works. They also support “PEOPLE TO PEOPLE” and “The Center for Safety and Change”.
Kaira’s message to other dreamers like herself is they can achieve their goals when driven by what she calls; “the indescribable feeling of wanting and finally owning your own business.” The quality, presentation and tasty flavor of one of Chef Paul Petruzzelli’s mouth watering creations are teasingly explained by Kaira with an impish grin; “Show me a seafood tower, and I’ll show you a destruction!”
Kaira Grundig is a Rockland Voice spotlight business role model, whose path to attaining her dreams is summed up by her own secret recipe of equal parts, inspiration, determination and generous helping of imagination. It is a menu of her own creation.
